"Quality is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution"
John Ruskin. 1819-1900 (Victorian Art Critic, Draughtsman, Social Thinker & Philanthropist)
The WhatHouse? Awards event is always a highlight of the housebuilding industry year - it provides a great opportunity to meet people and this year, to see one of the country’s best comedians, Jack Whitehall, in action. It is also a perfect early start to the party season.
The 2017 WhatHouse? Awards seemed especially well attended and the quality of contenders was as high as ever. We were very pleased to see such a strong field in the Best Retirement Development category. The judges must have had a particularly difficult decision to make in this competitive and growing market sector where there are so many factors to take into account. Namely: the design of the development, including accessibility and adaptability, the quality of additional services and amenities in delivering outstanding homes and care facilities for retirement living. The category covers age restricted housing, sheltered accommodation, assisted senior living and developments offering a full range of care options to residents.
The services and amenities on offer naturally play a large part in the home buyer’s decision-making process but, we believe that build quality and design is paramount for retirement properties where experienced house buyers are more discerning and exacting in their expectations. Minimising defects in all types of newly built homes is always important but, especially so in retirement properties, developers must get it right first time!
Neal Doggett, Business Development Director commented: “It was good to see that the judges’ comments for Adlington’s Gold winning development in Otley, West Yorkshire referred to “integrity in every facet of the development” and the special attention paid to structural details as well as the facilities such as the restaurant, hairdresser, on-site healthcare and spa.”
“And great to see Hill and McCarthy & Stone winning Silver and Bronze respectively in this category too, demonstrating a consistent and solid approach to quality housing for the UK’s ageing population.“
Q’s residential structural warranty is particularly appropriate for retirement schemes like these which combine attention to detail with high quality construction, offering an A-rated insurance policy to retirement homeowners, providing peace of mind for at least ten years.
We are already looking forward to next year’s Awards and to ever improving standards in 2018.
